“With gritty vocals and a swaggering, everyman style of country rock Johannesen’s sound is at times reminiscent of acts like Lucero, Ryan Bingham, and James McMurtry. ”

“...a supremely well-crafted piece of Midwestern Americana. Johannesen’s songs are compact, well-thought-out and engaging, and the deep emotional connections, hidden musical and lyrical twists and standout musicianship take the familiar structures and forms to interesting and unusual places.” - Marc Falk

“Johannesen shows the ability to make you laugh, dance, and think in the span of just nine songs. In the tradition of other middle American songwriters, he writes earnest songs with a bit of a gritty quality. More than that, he writes songs that make you feel something.” - Gary Schwind
